My Day
Ok, here is the deal. I was headed home today with three of my kids in tow. (Yup, they were behind the car tied with a rope) I needed to stop at the store to pick up some stuff to feed these short people. Even though they ate only yesterday, they want to eat again!. Anyway, a couple of miles before I get to the store, one of the short people needs to go potty. The grocery store is about 7 minutes from the house. I decide to run into the store by myself to make it quicker. I live in a small hillbilly town north of Houston. So we have only two stores within 15 miles of the house. I go into the store and every hammerhead on the planet seems to be in there. No problem, I think, I will use the express checkout since I am only buying pasta and milk. I get my stuff and head to the express lane. When I get there, about 4 ying-yangs are in line with full carts. When I casually mention the 15 item limit, they look at me like I am walking in the store nude. The lady in front of my has to write a check, no problem, except she decides that is the perfect place to balance the old check book. By this time my blood pressure is higher than Tommy Chong. Finally, she is done. My turn, or so I thought. This was the precise moment of a shift change at my register. Before they switch, the little checker girls decide to have a 5 minute conversation about getting back to high school after spring break. I make it back to the car like 35 minutes later and the short one who need to potty is almost crying. I speed off into the night to make it home before she has an accident. (In case your wondering why I didn't take her in the store, the bathrooms there get cleaned every Feb 29 whether they need them or not). I turn down the main road to my house, the speed limit is 55 mph. I try to drive 80 so the short one will make it. Well, this cop pulls out in front of my and drives 50 the whole way. I am praying the short one makes it, because, after all, I am driving a 1981 BMW with only 244,746 miles on it. We make it home, and the short one makes it to the bathroom. As I sit here thinking about my day, and how stressful it has been, this scripture comes to mind. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-25 With all the frustrations of life, are we walking in the Spirit? I am ashamed to admit, that I did not today. It is on days like today, that I need to lean on God's Word. Today I fell short, but tomorrow is another day. Praise The Lord.
