We had to trash everything in the fridge and freezer. I am still trying to get caught back up. My comedy is coming along great. I am doing a showcase show on November 18th and I have been going to open mics on Mondays. I really feel that I am going to see some real progress in that real soon. It has two hosts, one a Christian minister and the other a Jewish Rabbi. The topic of discussion was the recent ruling by a judge stating that the phrase in the Pledge of Allegiance "under God" is unconstitutional. I was surprised when both of the hosts seemed to take a position that we need to be more tolerant of how these two words might offend those who do not believe God.
I have a friend whose father is a pastor. The church where he pastors has a fellowship dinner on certain Wednesdays. The Red Cross called him and asked if his church would like to feed 100 people displaced by hurricane Katrina....On the condition that they not talk about Jesus! In a matter of a couple of days we are told the name of God is unconstitutional and some one asking a church for help and telling them they cannot talk about God.
If anyone thinks it is a good idea to take God out of every aspect of out society should probably consult the mayor of Sodom. Should we remove the name of God from our money and pledge simply because some do not believe in His existence? Where will this lead to? Should we have the constitution of the United States declared unconstitutional? It does have several references to God in its wording.
But, I digress. Just look at all the good brought to our public schools since prayer was taken away. We have been given such awesome gifts as metal detectors, drug dogs, and Kevlar vests for our teachers. Yes, the benefits are many when you remove God from a society. We are just now getting to enjoy the rewards of a generation who grew up without God. Our children can no longer walk to school by themselves, nor are they able to stroll through our nation’s public parks and malls. Countless turn up missing, raped and murdered each year. But, please, whatever you do, do not bow your head and pray for them.
Since the removal of public prayer in school the landmark decision of Roe vs. Wade has also made a significant impact on our society. Every year 4.5 million babies are conceived in this country and thanks to a woman's right to choose 1.5 million of those babies are aborted. Think about that for just a minute, 1 out of every 3 babies is aborted every year. Isn't there something very disturbing about that fact?

Love In Christ,
Wayne Havens

What a country!!!!

It is absolutly amazing the outpouring of kindness and support this country has given those devastated by hurricane Katrina. This event proves wrong the anti-american retoric that we are a self-absorbed nation, whose only care is the next dollar in our bank account. Without even blinking an eye, we started the massive response machine that has feed, clothes and housed many thousands who have lost everything. Within hours after the storm had passed hundreds of volunteers and trucks loaded with supplies was headed to the region. The response from the private secter was unprecedented. Thousands have volunteered since and thousand more will volunteer in the coming months. We reached deep into our pockets and have to date donated 500 million dollars to the Red Cross alone. While a tragedy like this can bring out the worst in humanity, it also brings out the very best. We did not wait for outside help, we helped ourselves. We saw the devastation, the loss, and the faces of the children and had compassion. Many cities have offered to assist in helping the survivors rebuild their lives for an indefinent period of time.
To the critics: The next time you want to critisize my country or fellow citizens take a look at the American spirit and compassion that arose once again when needed. If you want to critisize the response to the hurricane, I say "If you can do a better job, then shut up and do it".
We live in the greatest country in the world, and I thank God everyday for allowing me to live here. The way people act when they come in for a car repair is flabbergasting to me. I am getting really tired of the people who tell me they are on a "fixed income". I had one just the other day. An elderly lady came in needed to get her brakes fixed. She waited until her brakes where grinding for a couple of weeks before coming in and letting me look at it. When she was given the estimate she stated they we need to understand that she is on a "fixed income". Like that is going to change what it is going to take to fix her car. I hate to tell you, but most of us live on a "fixed income". I am paid salary so my paycheck is the same every week, thus it is "fixed". I understand not having enough money to pay for it right now, but to tell me you are on a "fixed income" and then just stare at me like I am supposed to bring the price down just baffles me. I never here anyone argue over prices at McDonald's or Walmart. I apologize, but I am not only here to fix your car, I have to make a profit while I do that. Otherwise, what would be to point of being in business.

Love In Christ,
Wayne Havens

Been A While!!

Wow,
I just noticed that is has been a long time since I have added another bit to my blog. I have been rather busy lately. I am getting ready to do a show at my local VA hospital this next Sunday. Several comics and I, who are also veterans, will be doing the show for free. Not a problem since the soldiers have risked and lost so much for us.
I am also at this moment waiting on an email to let me know if I have gotten a corporate gig in Dallas next January. It is for a woman's conference. One of the directors contacted me and wanted to know if I would be interested in doing a show for them on the first night of the conference. The committee is in a meeting right now to decide who the entertainment will be. I have been praying all day long.

Love In Christ,
Wayne Havens

Notes from the Conference.

I got back from the conference on Thursday. It was an huge success. I got to meet and talk with the best in Christian comedy. The workshops were extremely informative. I was encouraged and happy to realize that I am not alone on my journey.
One of the workshops was conducted by Kenn Kington. He spoke of making things happen for yourself and how being tenacious will get you to the next level. I also took a comedy writing class from John Branyan. That has already helped my writing immensely.
I was privileged meet and talk with Phil Visher, creator of Veggie Tales. He is an extremely intelligent and creative individual. Brad Stine also gave a talk on the direction of Christian comedy in today's world. Listening to him has really got me pumped up about taking my comedy in the direction I have been dreaming of.
Probably the best part of the conference was the friendships that I made while there. I will defiantly be back next year.

Love In Christ,
Wayne Havens

Comedy Conference

I will be leaving next week for Dallas to attend the Christian Comedy Associations annual comedy conference. I have been looking forward to this for about 7 months now.
I believe God will open some doors for me through this conference. This is the same state where Terry Shiavo was allowed to starve to death, despite the protest of her family. The 13 year old is in custody of the state, where she ran away, and became pregnant. She has a track record of seriously bad decisions, but they are letting her make this decision. While I understand the difficulties of her having a baby, and she cannot care for it, but what about the life of the baby? This young lady will grow up having no sense of responsability for her actions. I know she is young, but if she can make some mistakes then walk into an office and in short order make her mistakes go away, where will this girl be in 5 years? In 10 years? It is sad that we live in society that no longer accepts responsiblity for our own actions. We blame everyone but ourselves.
The low value we put on human live has me livid. The loudest voices in our society want to save the animals, but toss the life of humans in the trash. If one of your family members is on life support, pull the plug. Having an unwanted baby?, just say no to adoption and yes to abortion. But if you want to build a home in an area where a species of frog is endangered, you must leave him alone. Am I the only one who sees the stupidity of this. And who must we blame? Who is at fault here?
Those who oppose abortion and remain silent are. Those who get outraged at the news reports, but do nothing are. Those who say they are Christians but let it all go, simply because it does not affect them directly.
In todays paper was a story of a man who woke out of a 10 year coma. It is truly a miracle. I wonder how many said that he should have been let to die. He has been returned to his family. We give up to easily on life. Life is not treasured as it once was.

Love In Christ,
Wayne Havens
Ephesians 6:18

Houstons Funniest Person

I have entered a comedy competition called Houstons Funniest Person Contest. I think I have a good chance, although there will be a lot of very good comics in the competition.

Love In Christ,
Wayne Havens
Ephesians 6:18

The Pope

Pope John Paul II left a legacy that each of us as Christians should try and emulate. He dedicated his life to the service of God. As I read about the influence he has had on millions of people around the world, I cannot help but think of another before his who did the same. The Pope lived as Jesus did, as an example of compassion and a love of others.

I had not realized that he was working behind the scenes of so many historic events. He quietly gave of himself and asked for nothing in return. I cannot afford to buy one right now, but my 1981 BMW has seen better days. It has no A/C, no radio, and no class. It has been getting worse everyday. The struts are shot, it feels like I am driving Fred Flinstones car. I can barely keep control of it when I drive above 55 mph. God answered my prayers today. A costomer of mine walked in the shop today and gave me his car. It is a 1988 Chevy Cavalier. Not the best car in the world but, a big step up. It has A/C and 4 doors, which will make my kids happy. They are tired of climbing in and out of the backseat of the old beemer. It is amazing how God comes through for me time and again.

Love In Christ,
Wayne Havens
Ephesians 6:18

A Quickie

Not much to report today. I was headed home today with three of my kids in tow. (Yup, they were behind the car tied with a rope) I needed to stop at the store to pick up some stuff to feed these short people. Even though they ate only yesterday, they want to eat again!. Anyway, a couple of miles before I get to the store, one of the short people needs to go potty. The grocery store is about 7 minutes from the house. I decide to run into the store by myself to make it quicker. I live in a small hillbilly town north of Houston. So we have only two stores within 15 miles of the house. I go into the store and every hammerhead on the planet seems to be in there. No problem, I think, I will use the express checkout since I am only buying pasta and milk. I get my stuff and head to the express lane. When I get there, about 4 ying-yangs are in line with full carts. When I casually mention the 15 item limit, they look at me like I am walking in the store nude. The lady in front of my has to write a check, no problem, except she decides that is the perfect place to balance the old check book. By this time my blood pressure is higher than Tommy Chong. Finally, she is done. My turn, or so I thought. This was the precise moment of a shift change at my register. Before they switch, the little checker girls decide to have a 5 minute conversation about getting back to high school after spring break. I make it back to the car like 35 minutes later and the short one who need to potty is almost crying. I speed off into the night to make it home before she has an accident. (In case your wondering why I didn't take her in the store, the bathrooms there get cleaned every Feb 29 whether they need them or not). I turn down the main road to my house, the speed limit is 55 mph. I try to drive 80 so the short one will make it. Well, this cop pulls out in front of my and drives 50 the whole way. I am praying the short one makes it, because, after all, I am driving a 1981 BMW with only 244,746 miles on it. We make it home, and the short one makes it to the bathroom. As I sit here thinking about my day, and how stressful it has been, this scripture comes to mind. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-25 With all the frustrations of life, are we walking in the Spirit? I am ashamed to admit, that I did not today. It is on days like today, that I need to lean on God's Word. Today I fell short, but tomorrow is another day. Praise The Lord.

Love In Christ,
Wayne Havens
Ephesians 6:18

I Am Here

I just got my site up and running and will be adding more features soon. Starting a website has proved easier than I had believed. I found this out when I was informed that my postings on the CCA bulletin board was causing some problems. I had been posting on there for about 3 months now. I made several friends on the message boards. We began posting 10-30 times a day on there, each. I enjoyed it, because it helped me with my creativity. One of us recieved an email stating that CCA was thinking of shutting down the boards, so we started our own board. It is called Faith Humor. ( You can reach it from the links page). Within two days we not only had a message board, we now have our own website. It was very easy to get started. Keep coming back as I will be posting my jumbled thoughts here from time to time.

Love In Christ,
Wayne Havens
Ephesians 6:18
